When I decided to create a space to share thoughts and ideas about the intersection of vocal growth and personal growth, I brainstormed a number of potential names - Mind Body Voice - Vocal Freedom - Vocal Development - Zen Voice. . . I wanted to communicate the idea that this would be a place for the intersection of learning about your singing voice and learning about yourself.  Why? Because that is my experience. Many road blocks in my vocal development have been cleared by paying attention to what is going on in my mind and in my body.

A journey insinuates that you are on a path of discovery.  I personally love adventure - the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Years ago I backpacked through Mexico and Guatemala and then moved to Brazil.  I feel very alive while learning new languages, meeting new people, and seeing new places.  But as anyone who has ever traveled this way knows, it’s not always exciting and certainly not always comfortable (physically, psychologically, or emotionally).  I found that out quickly and kept going.  The gains outweigh the hardship. I love growth.

A journey also insinuates that there is value and richness along the way . . . towards a destination. The destination is not the end all, be all.  In fact, by nature we tend to move our destinations further away as we approach an original goal or stopping point. It’s in our nature to want to realize our full potential, and that expands as we go through life.  Have you imagined what your full vocal potential might be?

And so, my vocal journey is a place to riff on all things related to that fascinating relationship between our minds, our bodies, and our voices.  The intersection of vocal growth and personal growth has been a very rewarding experience for me. I hope to share with and learn from many travelers as I continue my journey.

I'd love to hear about your journey . . . .
